Silk thread has arrived!!!!!!

I got some beautiful silk buttonhole twist thread from ebay.  So much fun finding little treasures like this. Seven of them are Belding Corticelli and three are Coats and Clark. Coats and Clarks have a price of .25 and the Belding Corticelli range in price, 4are .20  1 is .25 and 2 are .35  .Oh to have these prices nowadays. Looking foreward to doing my handworked buttonholes as per my couture sewing book describes.

Singer 5 thread Professional Series Serger

This post is overdue by about a month but, only because I wanted to have time to play with the machine and learn about all of the stitches I will be using it for.
Let me then begin by explaining how it all came about that I should be the proud owner of said machine..... I was actually expecting a different sewing machine to arrive the day that this one showed up at our door so I didn't get too excited when the box said Singer Serger on the outside, I simply assumed that the ebay shipper had this as a spare box and used it to ship my machine( I'll tell you about that one soon!) .
See, it could have been anything was my thinking......well I ran downstairs to get Tim( my DH) to tell him the ebay machine was here and he came up so we could open it together. OMG..... When I opened it I nearly fell to the floor and couldn't stop grinning and giggling for about 5 minutes. My children thought I was nuts. I could not believe that Hubby had gone and gotten me the machine I had been secretly hoping for! Luv Him!!!

This puppy came with some really cool extra feet that I hope to get a chance to try and will talk about in a later post but my main objective with this was to use as a coverstitch as I had a serger already.  It does a bang up job too and I thought it was pretty easy to get to know.. Have changed threads multiple times and I found an incredible tutorial that explains how to begin AND end your stitches  http://stitchesandseams.blogspot.com/2001/01/coverstitch-how-to-end-coverstitch.html . This was a life changer.

Second shirt out of the previously mentioned Burda pattern. Hey if something works right...Well maybe I should not have been so quick to get this done but, I do like things that I can accomplish and see results quickly.
I cut the top out and thought I had a perfect match for the sleeves but, turns out this fabric has a longer repeat and I didn't notice until all was cut out and there was no fabric to spare. The collar is my own doing and not from the pattern. For all of the non matching I still really like both tops and they are super comfortable. For the start of this no RTW challenge I wanted to make some casual shirts because that is what I gravitate to.

First completed piece of clothing of 2014

Well it seems as though more should be accomplished by now but my faux Channel muslin is really taking a lot of time to get right.
